A personal Oscar prediction game I built to play with my friends in a day. You can pick your winners before the ceremony, track results, see your stats and find out once and for all who is the ultimate filmbro.
On a regular cleaning up on my phone, I found an old photo from — a paper scribbled with Three Billboards, Phantom Thread, someone's chaotic bracket of guesses where on bottom right it says 'Oscar Bet 2018'. That was the year my friend and I stayed up until 3am to watch the Oscars together, eating sushi — well, trying to eat sushi and failing it. This year we were discussing on watching the nominees and somewhere between joking that a 2 hour 45 minute film had no chance with voters and debating whether the kpop demon hunter would take best animation — I was on the right side of history on that one btw — the thought landed: why don't I create something for this, for us.
I had one day. Wrote a PRD in the morning, designed it in Figma, and built it before the ceremony.
After sending the link to my friends it was genuinely fun to see everyone's guesses and joke around with it. We are now away from each other and don't get to meet as often, but it reminded me of simpler times where you could just play and have fun together. 2027, I'm coming back for the number one spot. And who knows, maybe sending the link to more people to make it even more fun.
